Albanian Student Organization at Seton Hall University

The Albanian Student Organization (ASO) is a cultural club at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, recognized by the university's Student Government Association and listed in Seton Hall's Engage platform. In its own words, ASO exists to reconnect Albanian students at Seton Hall with their ethnic roots and to teach others about Albanian history and culture.

The group is young. A Seton Hall feature called it the university's newest cultural organization, and a November 2024 university article noted the club was then in only its second semester as an officially recognized student organization. Nancy Kajo is named as the primary student contact, with Ines A. Murzaku, Ph.D., of Catholic Studies serving as a faculty contact.

ASO's signature event is its annual Albanian Independence Day Celebration at Bethany Hall on campus. The first, on November 14, 2024, drew over 200 guests for an evening of Albanian music, dance, and food. A second annual celebration followed on November 14, 2025, featuring traditional music, valle dancing, Albanian food, a photo booth, and raffle prizes. ASO has also co-hosted an Italian/Albanian Cultural Exchange Night with the Italian Club.

Fundraising is built into the programming. Proceeds from the 2024 celebration went to schools in Vlorë, Albania, and the 2025 event raised funds for a 24-hour center for children and adults with special needs in Vlorë, a city where many ASO members have family roots. The 2024 program also included a performance by the Albanian American Cultural Center in Riverdale, NJ, connecting the campus club to the wider Albanian-American community in the region.
