SS. Peter and Paul Albanian Orthodox Church

About SS. Peter and Paul Albanian Orthodox Church

Founded:
1915
Area served:
Northeast Philadelphia

SS. Peter and Paul Albanian Orthodox Church is a parish of the Albanian Archdiocese of the Orthodox Church in America, located at 9230 Old Bustleton Avenue in the Bustleton section of Northeast Philadelphia. It is one of the oldest Albanian Orthodox communities in the United States, founded in 1915, with its first Divine Liturgy served on December 25 of that year.

The parish's earliest years were led by Fr. Naum Cere in a rented space at 4th and Sharswood Streets. About three years later, the community had raised enough to purchase a church building at Hancock and Oxford Streets before eventually settling at its current Northeast Philadelphia site.

The parish is under the care of the Right Reverend Nikodhim, Bishop of Boston and the Albanian Archdiocese. In December 2015, Rev. Nicholas Dellermann was assigned as rector. Divine Liturgy is celebrated in English every Sunday at 10:00 AM, and the patronal feast of Saints Peter and Paul is observed each June 29.

While the parish is rooted in more than a century of Albanian Orthodox life in Philadelphia, the congregation today includes members from a range of Orthodox traditions and ethnic backgrounds, with visitors welcome from any background. It is listed among the sister parishes of the Albanian Archdiocese and sits within the Archdiocese's Mid-Atlantic Deanery.
