St. Elia Albanian Orthodox Church is a parish of the Albanian Archdiocese of the Orthodox Church in America, worshiping in the Byzantine tradition at 103 Palmer Street in Jamestown, New York. The parish describes itself as dedicated to worshiping God in the ancient traditions of the Albanian Orthodox Church, and people of various ethnic backgrounds now take part in its liturgies alongside parishioners of Albanian heritage.
The community traces its origin to 1911, when Rev. Fan S. Noli — the founder of the Albanian Orthodox Church in America and later its Metropolitan — served the first Albanian Orthodox liturgy for the Jamestown community. The parish marked 100 years of Orthodoxy in the Jamestown area in 2011. Its current home, at the corner of Palmer and Sprague Streets, is a building constructed in 1888 that previously served as Brooklyn Heights Methodist Church.
Divine Liturgy is celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturdays, twice a month, by V. Rev. John P. Hutnyan, who serves as priest-in-charge and travels from Cheektowaga, NY. Nicholas Manno of Jamestown is listed as chanter. A recent schedule posted by the parish set services on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
St. Elia is one of a small number of Orthodox congregations in Chautauqua County and is recognized among the sister parishes of the OCA's Albanian Archdiocese. Its direct tie to Fan Noli places it among the early Albanian Orthodox communities established in the United States.
