St. Thomas Albanian Orthodox Church

St. Thomas Albanian Orthodox Church is a parish of the Albanian Archdiocese within the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), located at 29150 West Ten Mile Road in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The community describes itself as the spiritual home of the local Albanian Orthodox faithful, rooted in the Orthodox faith and proud of its Albanian heritage.

The parish traces its origins to a group called the Albanian Society of Orthodox Christians, which first gathered in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Racke Kamenitsa on St. Thomas Sunday before growing into a full parish. The current parish corporation was established in 1972 under EIN 38-6158398, and it remains one of the longer-standing Albanian Orthodox communities in Michigan.

Weekly worship follows the full Orthodox cycle. Great Vespers is served Saturdays at 6:00 PM, and Divine Liturgy is celebrated Sundays at 10:00 AM, with Sunday School for children following Holy Communion. A lesser blessing of the water is offered on the first of every month, alongside feast day services, baptisms, marriages, memorials, Holy Unction, house blessings, and hospital visitation.

Rev. Juxhin Shkurti serves as acting priest, and Aleksander Kume chairs the parish council. The parish hosted the Albanian Orthodox Archdiocese's 2025 Annual Assembly, drawing clergy and delegates from across the country and underscoring its standing within the national Albanian-American Orthodox community.

While centered on Farmington Hills, the parish draws Albanian Orthodox families and other Orthodox Christians from across the greater Detroit metropolitan area, pairing liturgical life with cultural events and parish gatherings tied to Albanian heritage.
